June 2026 Newsletter

Welcome to the Homer Public Library’s June 2026 Newsletter! This monthly newsletter features our upcoming events and news. Pick up a print copy at our Main Circulation Desk or fill out the form on our Newsletter page to receive our monthly newsletter in your inbox.

Below are our June events for Adults, Children, and Teens. Some events may require registration to ensure we have plenty of supplies for all attendees. If so, please call or visit the library to register for those events.

Don’t forget: Summer Reading for all ages begins this month, so keep your eyes open for a variety of special events!

Adult Events: 

Adult Summer Reading Challenge 2026 - Challenge yourself to read more this summer for the chance to win a prize! The challenge will be available for pick up beginning Monday, June 1st at 9am and must be returned no later than 4pm on Friday, July 31st to enter the prize drawing.

GetSetUp with Kathy @ the Library – Join Kathy to learn more about GetSetUp, the online learning community for adults 55+, during a weekly meetup. In June, join us every Monday at 10am for exercise and health topics.

Adult Summer Reading: Conrade C. Hinds, Author Visit - Join us on Tuesday June 2nd at 2pm to welcome Conrade C. Hinds, an Ohio author, for a discussion of his books including Hollywood in Ohio, Made in Ohio, The Great Columbus Experiment of 1908, Columbus and the Great Flood of 1913, and Lost Circuses of Ohio.

Crafting with Ann – Join us for Crafting with Ann on Tuesday, June 9th at 2pm to create a patriotic bracelet. All supplies will be provided. Registration is required. 

Ukulele Association of Homer - Join us to practice your ukulele and share your enthusiasm for this unique instrument with the Ukulele Association of Homer on Thursday, June 11th and June 25th from 5pm-7pm. Bring your own ukulele or borrow one from us. An experienced player will be available to provide a lesson, if needed. All ages are welcome! 

Adult Summer Reading: Mammoths & Mastodon Discoveries in Ohio with Gary Argabright - Join us in welcoming Gary Agrabright, a retired Ohio educator, archaeologist, and expert in prehistoric cultures and artifacts to speak on Ohio’s prehistoric discoveries on Friday, June 12th at 1pm. If you’re a history buff, science enthusiast, or curious about our state’s ancient past, this will be a fascinating presentation. 

Community of Women - Join us for Community of Women on Tuesday, June 16th at 2pm for an informal gathering to share ideas, encourage, and support one another through life's challenges as we grow wiser (age) together. This month we are reading and discussing the chapters Nostalgia and Spirituality from The Gift of Years by Joan Chittister.

Brunch & A Movie – You’re invited to join us for Brunch & A Movie on Friday, June 19th from 10am-12pm. This month we’re screening Truth & Treason (2025), a drama inspired by the true story of Helmuth Hübener. Please RSVP by Thursday, June 18th. Note: This movie is rated PG-13. Here is a summary of the film: When loyalty to country becomes loyalty to a lie, one teen risks everything to expose the truth. With the Gestapo closing in, he must decide what it really means to be a good German.

Book Club - Join us for Book Club on Friday, June 26th at 11am. This month's book is The Beautiful and the Wild by Peggy Townsend. Call or visit to reserve your copy of this survival thriller. 

LCAP Meal & Y on the Fly - Join the Licking County Aging Partners to enjoy a nutritious meal at the library on the Friday, June 26th (the 4th Friday of every month)! Lunch is provided by LCAP at 12pm, followed by Y on the Fly's fitness activity. To reserve a meal, please call the library at 740-892-2020 or 740-345-0821 Ext. 1218 at least 24 hours in advance. 

Historical Society - Join the Homer Historical Society in the meeting room on Friday, June 26th at 2pm for a discussion of local history. Please bring any "show and tell" items that you would like to share.

Children’s Events: 

Children’s Summer Reading Bingo - Play Bingo from June 17th through July 22nd this Summer to earn a prize for every completed bingo and a ticket to win 1 of 3 grand prizes!

Children’s Summer Reading: Dig Into Decomposition! - Licking County Recycling visits Wednesday, June 17th at 10am to show us decomposition in action! Take a look at how things break down and become part of the soil again, and learn about how you can compost at home.

Children’s Summer Reading: Dinosaur Egg Hunt - Children are invited to come as we have an Eggs-celent Hunt in store for them on Wednesday, June 24th at 10am. 

Teen Events: 

Book Genre Bingo Prize 1 is a DIY Leathercraft Bookmark Kit and Prize 2 is a Fred the Dinosaur, The Woobles Crochet Kit.

Teen Summer Reading: Book Genre Bingo For Prizes - Book Genre Bingo boards are available for pickup beginning June 15th. Turn in your completed board by Tuesday, July 21st at 7pm to earn tickets for the chance to win prizes! Teen Summer Reading: Bad Art Night: Paleoart Edition - Recreate classic paleoart on Tuesday, June 16th at 5:30pm with random art supplies & vote on who has made the best of the worst to win the Big Bad Trophy! Registration required.

Teen Summer Reading: Teen Movie & Pizza Night – Check out the classic adventure film, Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom (1984), with Lauren on Thursday, June 18th from 5pm-7pm. Pizza and drinks will be served. Please RSVP by 5pm on Wednesday, June 17th. Note: This movie is rated PG. Here is a summary of the film: "After arriving in India, Indiana Jones is asked by a desperate village to find a mystical stone. He agrees - and stumbles upon a secret cult plotting a terrible plan in the catacombs of an ancient palace." What do you want to watch? Teen Summer Reading: Dinosaur Gardens - Join us on Tuesday, June 23rd at 5:30pm to create a fun, small garden with roaming dinosaurs. Registration required.
