May 2026 Newsletter

Welcome to the Homer Public Library’s May 2026 Newsletter! This monthly newsletter features our upcoming events and news. Pick up a print copy at our Main Circulation Desk or fill out the form on our Newsletter page to receive our monthly newsletter in your inbox.

Below are our May events for Adults, Children, and Teens. Some events may require registration to ensure we have plenty of supplies for all attendees. If so, please call or visit the library to register for those events.

A special notice: our library will be closed for Memorial Day 2026. In honor of the holiday, we will be closed Saturday, May 23rd through Monday, May 25th and will reopen at 9am on Tuesday, May 26th. Thank you to all who have served in our armed forces!

Adult Events: 

Recipe Swap - Join us on Friday, May 1st at 11am for Recipe Swap. This month's theme is A Dish You Didn't Like As A Kid, But You Like It Now. Drinks and table service will be provided. Don't forget to bring the recipe with you. 

GetSetUp with Kathy @ the Library – Join Kathy to learn more about GetSetUp, the online learning community for adults 55+, during a weekly meetup. In May, join us every Monday at 10am for exercise and health topics. Note: No meeting on May 25th in honor of Memorial Day. 

Medicare Discussion with Jason Barber - Jason Barber of TLC Insurance Group will lead a discussion on Medicare on Tuesday, May 5th at 11am. Join us to gain a greater understanding and get answers to common questions about Medicare.

Crafting with Ann – Join us for Crafting with Ann on Tuesday, May 12th at 2pm to create a memory wire bracelet of your choice. All supplies will be provided. Registration is required.

Ukulele Association of Homer - Join us to practice your ukulele and share your enthusiasm for this unique instrument with the Ukulele Association of Homer on Thursday, May 14th and May 28th from 5pm-7pm. You may bring your own ukulele or borrow one from us. An experienced ukulele player will be available to provide a lesson, if needed. All ages are welcome!

Brunch & A Movie – You’re invited to join us for Brunch & A Movie on Friday, May 15th from 10am-12pm. This month we’re screening Green and Gold (2025), a drama inspired by a true story. Please RSVP by Thursday, May 14th. Note: This movie is not rated. Here is a summary of the film: With American farms disappearing, a fourth-generation dairy farmer and his granddaughter fight to preserve their way of life. Facing foreclosure, they wager everything on their beloved Green Bay Packers in a hail-mary effort to save their little chunk of dirt. 

Community of Women - Join us for Community of Women on Tuesday, May 19th at 2pm for an informal gathering to share ideas, encourage, and support one another through life's challenges as we grow wiser (age) together. This month we are reading and discussing the chapters Agelessness and Immediacy from The Gift of Years by Joan Chittister. 

LCAP Meal & Y on the Fly - Join the Licking County Aging Partners to enjoy a nutritious meal at the library on the Friday, May 22nd (the 4th Friday of every month)! Lunch is provided by LCAP at 12pm, followed by Y on the Fly's fitness activity. To reserve a meal, please call the library at 740-892-2020 or 740-345-0821 Ext. 1218 at least 24 hours in advance.

Book Club - Join us for Book Club on Friday, May 29th at 11am. This month's book is Hick by Sarah Miller. Call or visit to reserve your copy of this biography. 

Historical Society - Join the Homer Historical Society in the meeting room on Friday, May 29th at 2pm for a discussion of local history. Please bring any "show and tell" items that you would like to share.

Children’s Events: 

May Story Time - Join Miss Shaunta for April Story Time for children birth to preschool on Wednesdays @ 10AM - May 13th & May 20th. Note: No Story Time on May 6th & May 27th. 

Homer Homeschoolers - Join Miss Shaunta on Thursday, May 14th at 10am (and the 2nd Thursday each month) for our homeschool program, Homer Homeschoolers, for all ages. May's theme is "All About the Ocean.” This unit study will feature a variety of learning activities. If you have any questions, please email Shaunta at scunningham@seolibraries.org.

Teen Events:

Teen Crafting - Join Lauren this month for Teen Crafting on Tuesday, May 12th at 5:30pm and create a Fluffy Clouds Watercolor Bookmark. Registration is required. Please call or visit the library to register.

Teen Paint Night - Join Lauren for Teen Paint Night on Tuesday, May 19th at 5:30pm to create a cute frog painting. Let your creativity flow! Registration is required. Please visit or call the library to register.

Teen Movie & Pizza Night – On Thursday, May 21st from 5pm-7pm check out the new sci-fi action film, Predator: Badlands (2025), with Lauren. Pizza and drinks will be served. Please RSVP by 5pm on Wednesday, May 20th. Note: This movie is rated PG-13. Here is a summary of the film: Cast out from his clan, a young Predator finds an unlikely ally in a damaged android and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.
