Welcome to the Homer Public Library’s September 2026 Newsletter! This monthly newsletter features our upcoming events and news. Pick up a print copy at our Main Circulation Desk or fill out the form on our Newsletter page to receive our monthly newsletter in your inbox.
Below are our August events for Adults, Children, and Teens. Some events may require registration to ensure we have plenty of supplies for all attendees. If so, please call or visit the library to register for those events.
Note: The library will be closed in honor of Labor Day on Saturday, September 5th - Monday, September 7th. We will reopen at 9am on Tuesday, September 8th. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Adult Events:
Patron Appreciation Day - Join us on Tuesday, September 1st from 11am-2pm for light refreshments and a special activity as we celebrate our Patrons and the community for all of the support over the years.
Recipe Swap - Join us on Friday, September 4th at 11am for Recipe Swap. This month's theme is Vintage Recipe. Drinks and table service will be provided. Don't forget to bring the recipe with you.
GetSetUp with Kathy @ the Library – Join Kathy to learn more about GetSetUp, the online learning community for adults 55+, during a weekly meetup. Join us Monday, September 14th, 21st, and 28th at 10am for exercise and health topics. Note: No meeting on September 7th in honor of Labor Day.
Ukulele Association of Homer - Join us to practice your ukulele and share your enthusiasm for this unique instrument with the Ukulele Association of Homer on Thursday, September 10th and September 24th from 5pm-7pm. Bring your own ukulele or borrow one from us. An experienced player will be available to provide a lesson, if needed. All ages are welcome!
Community of Women - Join us for Community of Women on Tuesday, September 15th at 2pm for an informal gathering to share ideas, encourage, and support one another through life's challenges as we grow wiser (age) together. This month we are reading and discussing the chapters Appreciation and Faith from The Gift of Years by Joan Chittister.
Brunch & A Movie – You’re invited to join us for Brunch & A Movie on Friday, September 18th from 10am-12pm. This month we’re screening Solo Mio (2026), a romantic comedy drama. Please RSVP by Thursday, September 17th. Note: This movie is rated PG. Here is a summary of the film: All roads lead to (being left in) Rome. After Matt’s dreams of a picturesque Italian wedding are shattered when his fiancée leaves him at the altar, he embarks on his planned honeymoon across Italy alone, immersing himself in the country’s vibrant culture, food, and beauty, meeting Gia along the way.
Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary - Join Mary Miller on Tuesday, September 22nd at 2pm for patriotic songs in honor of our semiquincentennial.
Senior Citizen Scams - Join FBI Special Agent Steve Pettyjohn on Thursday, September 24th from 11am-1pm to learn more about and how to guard against senior citizen scams.
Book Club - Join us for Book Club on Friday, September 25th at 11am. This month's book is The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon. Call or visit to reserve your copy of this historical fiction novel.
Brown Bag Wellness - Brown Bag it with Kathy on Friday, September 25th at 12pm! Pack your lunch and join us for a casual chat on a variety of topics, and game and an educational GetSetUp video.
Historical Society Meeting - Join the Homer Historical Society in the meeting room on Friday, September 25th at 2pm for a discussion of local history. Please bring any "show and tell" items that you would like to share.
Children’s Events:
September Story Time - Join Miss Shaunta on Wednesdays at 10am for Story Time for children ages birth to preschool - September 16th, 23rd, and 30th. Note: No Story Time on September 2nd & 9th.
Homer Homeschoolers - Join Miss Shaunta on Thursday, September 10th at 10am (and the 2nd Thursday each month) for our homeschool program, Homer Homeschoolers, for all ages. September’s theme is "Back to Home-School.” This will feature a variety of learning activities and games. If you have any questions, please email Shaunta at scunningham@seolibraries.org.
Teen Events:
Teen Crafting - Join Lauren this month for Teen Crafting on Tuesday, September 8th at 5:30pm and make a cool design with alcohol ink on ceramic tiles. Registration is required.
Teen Paint Night - Join Lauren for Teen Paint Night on Tuesday, September 15th at 5:30pm to create a chicken wearing glasses painting. Let your creativity flow! Registration is required.
Teen Movie & Pizza Night – On Thursday, September 17th from 5pm-7pm check out the new Disney sequel, Zootopia 2 (2025), with Lauren. Pizza and drinks will be served. Please RSVP by 5pm on Wednesday, September 16th. Note: This movie is rated PG. Here is a summary of the film: After cracking the biggest case in Zootopia’s history, Judy and Nick find themselves on the trail of a great mystery when Gary De’Snake arrives and turns the city upside down. Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before.
