Welcome to the Homer Public Library’s July 2026 Newsletter! This monthly newsletter features our upcoming events and news. Pick up a print copy at our Main Circulation Desk or fill out the form on our Newsletter page to receive our monthly newsletter in your inbox.
Below are our July events for Adults, Children, and Teens. Some events may require registration to ensure we have plenty of supplies for all attendees. If so, please call or visit the library to register for those events.
Summer Reading for all ages wraps up this month, so keep your eyes open for a variety of special events and don’t forget to turn in your completed reading challenges!
Note: We will be closed Friday, July 3rd - Saturday, July 4th in honor of Independence Day and will reopen at 9am on Monday, July 6th. Have a safe and happy holiday weekend everyone!
Adult Events:
Adult Summer Reading Challenge 2026 - Challenge yourself to read more this summer for the chance to win a prize! The challenge is available for pick up and must be returned no later than 4pm on Friday, July 31st to enter the prize drawing.
GetSetUp with Kathy @ the Library – Join Kathy to learn more about GetSetUp, the online learning community for adults 55+, during a weekly meetup. In July, join us every Monday at 10am for exercise and health topics.
Ukulele Association of Homer - Join us to practice your ukulele and share your enthusiasm for this unique instrument with the Ukulele Association of Homer on Thursday, July 9th and July 23rd from 5pm-7pm. Bring your own ukulele or borrow one from us. An experienced player will be available to provide a lesson, if needed. All ages are welcome!
Recipe Swap - Join us on Friday, July 10th at 11am for Recipe Swap. This month's theme is BBQ Recipes. Drinks and table service will be provided. Don't forget to bring the recipe with you.
Crafting with Ann – Join us for Crafting with Ann on Tuesday, July 14th at 2pm to create a Figure 8 Bracelet. All supplies will be provided. Registration is required.
Brunch & A Movie – You’re invited to join us for Brunch & A Movie on Friday, July 17th from 10am-12pm. This month we’re screening Song Sung Blue (2025), a biographical musical drama inspired by the Mike and Claire Sardina and their Neil Diamond tribute band, Lightning & Thunder. Please RSVP by Thursday, July 16th. Note: This movie is rated PG-13. Here is a summary of the film: Based on a true story, two down-on-their-luck musicians form a joyous Neil Diamon tribute band, proving it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams.
Community of Women - Join us for Community of Women on Tuesday, July 21st at 2pm for an informal gathering to share ideas, encourage, and support one another through life's challenges as we grow wiser (age) together. This month we are reading and discussing the chapters Loneliness and Forgiveness from The Gift of Years by Joan Chittister.
LCAP Meal & Y on the Fly - Join the Licking County Aging Partners to enjoy a nutritious meal at the library on the Friday, July 24th (the 4th Friday of every month)! Lunch is provided by LCAP at 12pm, followed by Y on the Fly's fitness activity. To reserve a meal, please call the library at 740-892-2020 or 740-345-0821 Ext. 1218 at least 24 hours in advance.
Historical Society - Join the Homer Historical Society in the meeting room on Friday, July 24th at 2pm for a discussion of local history. Please bring any "show and tell" items that you would like to share.
Book Club - Join us for Book Club on Friday, July 31st at 11am. This month's book is Mountain Girl: From Barefoot to Boardroom by Marilyn Moss Rockefeller. Call or visit to reserve your copy of this memoir.
Children’s Events:
Children’s Summer Reading Bingo - Play Bingo from June 17th through July 22nd this Summer to earn a prize for every completed bingo and a ticket to win 1 of 3 grand prizes!
Children’s Summer Reading: Dinosaur Story Time - Please join Miss Shaunta on Wednesday July 1st at 10am for a dinosaur themed story time for all ages- books, songs, crafts, and activities.
Children’s Summer Reading: S. Kelly Rammell, Author Visit - Please join us on Wednesday, July 8th at 10am as we Unearth A Story with local children's author, S. Kelly Rammell as he reads his book City Beats: A Hip-Hoppy Pigeon Poem and stay for a puppet show also!
Children’s Summer Reading: T-Rex Teatime - Teatime is here and so are the Dinosaurs at 10am on Wednesday, July 15th! Please join us for some fancy, dino fun! Books, games, crafts, and snacks!
Children’s Summer Reading: Circus Pop: The Giant Bubble Show - Please join us at 10am on Wednesday, July 22nd as we finish off 2026's Summer Reading with Circus Pop: The Giant Bubble Show!! Children and adults will be amazed at Ringling Bros. alumnus, Logan Jimenez and his spectacular bubble show!
Teen Events:
Teen Summer Reading: Book Genre Bingo For Prizes - Book Genre Bingo boards are available for pickup beginning June 15th. Turn in your completed board by Tuesday, July 21st at 7pm to earn tickets for the chance to win prizes! Prize 1 is a DIY Leathercraft Bookmark Kit and Prize 2 is a Fred the Dinosaur, The Woobles Crochet Kit.
Teen Summer Reading: Dino Soap Bars - Join us on Tuesday, July 14th at 5:30pm to create your own unique bar of soap with a mini toy dinosaur inside. Registration required.
Teen Summer Reading: Teen Movie & Pizza Night – Check out the MonsterVerse film, Kong: Skull Island, with us on Thursday, July 16th from 5pm-7pm. Pizza and drinks will be served. Registration required. Please RSVP by 5pm on Wednesday, July 15th. Note: This movie is rated PG-13. Here is a summary of the film: Explore the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island.

Teen Summer Reading: Retro Game Night - Unearth some classic board games with us on Tuesday, July 21st at 5:30pm. If you have a favorite board game you would like to share, feel free to bring it with you. Let’s play!
